Terms of use

These terms are between you and Tangu, Nairobi, Kenya. By making or opening a Tangu you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use Tangu.

You must be 18 or older. You need a Kenyan mobile number to pay with M-Pesa. The person you are celebrating does not need an account, does not pay, and does not need to accept these terms to open what you made.

You may use Tangu only with a chat you are part of, and only to make something kind for someone in it. For partners, family and friends that means a chat between the two of you. A group or team chat may be used only with the At work edition, to honour one colleague in it.

You must not use Tangu to:

• upload a chat you are not part of, or a group chat outside the At work edition;
• embarrass, expose, harass, threaten or shame anyone;
• share someone's private information;
• make anything sexual, or anything about a child;
• get around WhatsApp's privacy settings, or any other service's rules;
• resell Tangu, or use it to advertise.

You are responsible for what you choose to keep and share. You see every moment before anything is shared, and you decide who receives the link.

If you use a work chat, you confirm that:

- you are allowed to use those messages this way under your organisation's policies, including any policy on exporting workplace messages; - the colleague you are honouring knows about the Tangu, or will before you share it; - you will share it only with that colleague and people they would expect to see it.

A Tangu celebrates. It is not a performance review, a rating or a record of anyone's work, and you must not use it, or anything in it, to make decisions about anyone's employment. If a Tangu is made for a review, it sits beside that review, never in place of it.

What is in your chat stays yours. You give us permission to process it only to build, store and show the Tangu you asked for, and to keep the service safe. We do not sell it, publish it, or use it to train AI.

We may hide or remove a Tangu, without notice, if it breaks these terms, if someone reports that it is about them and they did not agree, or if the law requires it. If we hide something we tell the person who made it and decide within 24 hours. An account with three upheld reports is closed.

Prices are shown before you pay and include any taxes. Payment is once per Tangu. There are no subscriptions. Payments are processed by Paystack; we never see your card details.

If a payment leaves your account but your Tangu does not appear, we match the payment automatically and finish it. Do not pay twice.

Refunds are covered by the Refund policy, which forms part of these terms.

We work hard to keep Tangu available, but we do not promise it will never be unavailable. We may change or stop features, and we will tell you before a change that affects something you have already paid for.

The AI chooses moments from your real messages and can get a choice wrong. That is why you review everything before it is shared, and why you can rebuild or ask for a refund within the window in the Refund policy.

Nothing here limits our responsibility for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by us, or for anything the law does not allow us to limit.

Beyond that, we are responsible only for loss we could reasonably expect when you started using Tangu, and our total responsibility to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the problem arose. We are not responsible for what someone does after you send them a link, for a phone or account you did not keep secure, or for a chat export you chose to upload that you were not part of.

You can stop at any time, and you can delete your account in Settings. We may close an account that breaks these terms. Deleting your account deletes your Tangus and the links stop working.

These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya have jurisdiction.
